A one-day drone workshop for photographers and videographers is being offered by Virginia’s Community College Workforce Alliance in partnership with the Virginia Film Office and the Virginia Production Alliance. Jimmy Olivero (SkyCamUsa) will moderate a panel of industry leaders. Participants will have the chance to see and touch a range of drones. 9/17, 9-4, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College (1651 E. Arvold is hosting “So Your Kid Wants to be an Actor.” This insider panel will include professional children’s talent agents, experienced parents of child actors, educators, and casting directors. Erica Arvold, CSA, educator, casting director & producer will host. 10/8, 1-5pm, $50 (16+), $80/pair (child/adult). The Bijou Film Center will host 2 screenings of a new documentary directed by two-time Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple. “Miss Sharon Jones” looks at the career and health challenges of this singer (best known for her collaboration with the Dap-Kings). 9/10, 7:15 & 9:30pm, 304 E. Broad, $9 (members $7.00). Available only at the door; no advance tickets.


The Afrikana Independent Film Festival, which showcases the work of people of color from around the worldl runs 9/15-18.
