Brad Pitt spends much of this movie alone, which is made more tedious by the constant inner monologue narrating his personal struggle. The premise has promise: He’s sent into space to determine what happened to his father’s daring exploration, which now seems to be causing unexplained power surges on Earth. There’s plenty of outer space special effects, but nothing visually impressive. Worse is that the mystery is a misnomer. Nothing is solved or revealed (except his damn emotions). Even with the slow pacing, we keep hoping for some sci-fi excitement that never materializes.
