AVA (review)

Jessica Chastain is the latest star to enter the action genre as yet another contract killer. After dispatching a few charges, her own life is put into peril by the “company” that employs her. Nothing new here. Chastain creates a steely character, but she also attempts to be sensitive in many scenes (lots of tears and sullen moments). As for the numerous fights, they appear impressive, but the staging is more noise and motion than clear action. This is in no way an original take on the genre, but it’s moderately entertaining.
