The Beacon Theatre (originally called The Broadway) opened in 1928, when it hosted vaudeville shows and silent movies. Since then, it has been closed, remodeled and finally abandoned In 1981. During the current renovation, seating was reduced to 655 to allow for more comfortable seats. Since the January opening, Leon Russell, Delbert McClinton, Vanilla Ice and The Blind Boys of Alabama have played (the Psychedelic Furs, The Temptations & Clint Black are booked for April). I was down last week to shoot this video tour. Notice the hall of doors, some of which don’t actually open (don’t u just love those fire marshalls) and a laundry room (rare for a concert venue and popular with traveling acts).
