Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band (review)

This is a documentary on the life (and death) of The Band, told from the perspective of lead songwriter Robbie Robertson. There’s lots of photos, video and interviews with famous friends to help tell the story, which is told thru one long interview with Robertson about his experiences with his “brothers.” Like several other docs on the 60s/70s music scene (most notably Echo in the Canyon), this one provides an interesting insight into the world of this unique group. While it tends to go on a bit longer than needed and leaves some questions unanswered, it’ll prove appealing to those who remember and respect The Band.
