Cuckoo (review)

This is the first I’ve ever heard of this British sitcom that starred Andy Samberg. He plays a zany world-travelling free-spirit faux-enlightened hippie type. A young woman brings him home from her gap year in Thailand as her husband. Needless to say, that surprise doesn’t sit well with her quiet family. The situations are pretty amusing, thanks to Samberg’s crazy character and the father’s continually baffled reactions (an enjoyable Greg Davies). Ironically, Samberg was not available after the first season (which was shot in 2012), so he’s replaced in the subsequent shows by his “son” (Taylor Lautner, who’s not anywhere near as funny). I haven’t delved much past the first episode of Season 2, but this show is one of those pleasing comic surprises that’s better than many of the popular shows on Netflix. (5 seasons ending in 2019)
