Get BlackListed

TheatreLAB has announced a new program called BlackList to celebrate the African American voice by spotlighting the individual works of an influential artist.

The inaugural celebration will showcase August Wilson (marking the 10-year anniversary of his death) featuring scenes and monologues from each play in his American magnum opus, THE CENTURY CYCLE.

This one-nite event is 10/18, 7pm at TheatreLAB’s The Basement, $15 ($5 for students). Proceeds will fund a scholarship for a current or college-bound African American theatre student.

As part of this celebration, TheatreLAB welcomes their #weRVA Community Partner, The Conciliation Project. They’ll host a workshop: STORYTELLING: An Oral Tradition (10-Noon) and panel discussion: “The Ground on Which I Stand: the Black Aesthetic” led by Dr. Tawnya Pettiford-Wates (1pm-3pm). Admission for the workshop is a $10 suggested donation. The panel will be free to the public.

This program was conceived by TheatreLAB CompanyArtist, Mary Shaw, and co-created by local actor Carolyn Meade.
