Hot Pursuit (review)

Misfit pairings have been done plenty and can be fodder for folly & fun. Not this time. Reese Witherspoon is an uptight, by-the-numbers cop who’s assigned to protect prime witness Sofia Vergara, a hot blooded Columbian (no stretch there). Witherspoon brings lots of spunk to her role, but the script is no help. Fans of “Modern Family” (where Vergara is so hilarious) can appreciate the writing on THAT show, because THIS movie demonstrates how good writing is vital to making her delivery work. Lack of any exciting action and an entirely predictable plot doesn’t help. The movie is crammed with energy and plenty of sassy back and forth…just none of it’s funny.
