Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (review)

These LIVE filmmakers didn’t tell a very good tale either (see the title). The plot involves the son of Orlando Bloom’s character as he searches for the Trident of Poseidon, which will reverse all nautical curses. Toss in a villain with an underwater special effects visage (Javier Bardem) and the star (Johnny Depp) reviving the eccentric role that’s simply gone stale. There’s way too much plot discussion, while most of the fights and chases are uninspired. Despite some cool visuals, there’s none of the inventiveness of the original. As for comedy, it’s completely drowned out by noisy nothing. Lots of activity and bluster, that seldom excites or even entertains. NOTE: Stay thru the credits for a sequel teaser.
