Racer and the Jailbird (review)

This ill-fated romance could only come from Europe. It’s complex, harsh and ultimately tragic. Matthias Schoenaerts plays a charming “car exporter” who’s actually a bank robber. Adèle Exarchopoulos drives race cars. They meet early and spend the rest of the film passionately devoted to each other, no matter how bleak the circumstances. Both of them are wonderful to watch and their chemistry is strong. Seeing them love and suffer is what this film holds, but expect several upheavals that challenge their relationship (and our patience with the increasingly incredible twists). In French with subtitles.
