Transformers: Age of Extinction (review)

This 4th installment has a new cast (headed by Mark Wahlberg), but everything else is pretty much the same: the good guys being chased by giant mechanical robots in massive, destructive battles. The first 90 minutes are actually well paced and enjoyable (T.J. Miller adds the comic comments), but then you realize there’s another whole movie yet to come. Yes, this is 2:45, which is way too long for the same noisy chases and fights that we’ve already seen. The effects are convincing, but not particularly original. Michael Bay’s hectic pacing and flared cinematography give it that big screen polish, but somebody should have cut it in half.
