Next week is the last week for TALES FROM THE GRIPS.

Well, kinda. Next Monday marks the launch of SIFTER, an exciting reboot for TVJerry.

The James River Film Festival celebrates 20 years with lots of cool screenings and visiting filmmakers (4/11 – 17). Just a few of the highlights:

  • founding Slave-Pit members Don Drakulich & Mike Bishop present a retrospective of GWAR’s 28-year history
  • Django (the original inspiration for Tarantino)
  • the videos of noted VCU prof Richard Carlyon
  • several films by Richard Myers (who will be here)
  • Fleischer Brothers’ Superman Cartoons
  • a restoration of Safety Last! starring Harold Lloyd (the first fest in the country to show this)
  • Richmond native Kevin McNeer presents his work-in-progress doc on the Russian animation studio Soyuzmultfilm

This year’s PBS OnLine Film Festival received more than 350,000 views with users casting more than 21,000 votes for their favorite. And the winner is “LIVE ART” (presented by WCVE and made by Martin Montgomery & William Gaff).

There will be a screening of ”Edie and Thea: A Very Long Engagement” (about the couple whose relationship was an instigator in the DOMA case before the Supreme Court), 4/14, 7pm, Richmond Triangle Players (1300 Altamont Ave). Free, but donations accepted.
