Gov. McAuliffe has announced that “Ithaca” will be shot in the Richmond-Petersburg area this summer. Meg Ryan will direct and star, along with her son, Jack Quaid and Sam Shepard. Playtone (Tom Hanks’ production company) is producing and will be eligible for a Virginia Film Tax Credit and Grant.

The story is based on William Saroyan’s 1942 book “The Human Comedy,” about a teenage boy who has to take care of his mother and siblings while his brother is at war. It was previously made in 1943 with Mickey Rooney, Donna Reed & Van Johnson.


The 48 Hour Film Project is the weekend of 7/18-20. Registration is on a first come first served basis. Visit the site for details. The screenings will be 7/25 at the Byrd Theater.


WCVE received 2 Emmy awards. Best segment of a Magazine Program for “Virginia Currents” (The George Dennehy Story) and Best Documentary (The Kennedy Half Century).




DARK RONIN Films in association with CLEVER PEOPLE Productions will begin principal photography on “Trainers,” a feature to be shot in July/August. Open call 6/ 28, 2 – 8:30, Regency Square Mall. Bring 2 Headshots with resume on back and 1 full body photo (does not have to be professional).
