Producer/director Jack Hartman died last week from surgery complications. His memorial service will be held 10/27, 5pm, Remnant Church (12 N 19th St). Click here to help cover expenses for the service.

 

After 17 years in LA, DP Mark Mervis has moved back home to Richmond. He told Tales, “So much of my recent work in features and television has been happening on the east coast, due in no small part to tax incentives.  So, with my family being in Virginia, it just made sense to come home.  I am looking forwad to working and living in Richmond again, where I’ve always found a lot of talent, positive energy and enthusiasm in the production community.”

 

The James River Filmmakers Forum (Autumn 2014 Edition) will be 11/8th, 8pm at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond (1812 W Main St). Independent film enthusiast are invited to see the work of local filmmakers with each panelist screening their work and taking questions. $4 admission, cash bar, free popcorn .

 

There will be an English subtitled showing of Zhang Yimou’s first movie, “Red Sorghum,” which was released on VHS in 1991, but never on DVD in this country. This will be a 35mm print transferred to DCP expressly by the China Film Archive and sanctioned by Xi’an Film Studio. 11/23, 1:30pm at the Byrd Theatre, $5 in advance (804.340.1405) or at VMFA’s website, $6 at the door.
