Zootopoia (review)

The latest animation from Disney takes place in a world where all animals get along, even preditors and prey (insert continuous message about diversity and acceptance here). A young rabbit (Ginnifer Goodwin) becomes the first cop of her species and sets out for the big city to rise above preconceptions about her timid type (more message). She teams up with a scam artist (Justin Bateman) to solve a big case. While this starts out as an innovative concept with some lovely animation and weirdly anthropomorphic characters, it eschews much humor to become a police procedural (with the message continually inserted). There are some amusing moments (most notably the sloths at DVM), but it’s too serious and not clever enough to rate as Disney’s best.
