Daveed Diggs and Rafael Casal star as long-time friends (one black, one white) who’ve grown up in Oakland, CA. The actors also wrote the screenplay, which is somewhat based on their relationship. Diggs plays a released felon in the final days of his probation. The ominious threat of losing his freedom hovers over him every second, while Rafael’s jokily threaten his security. The themes of racism, police violence and gentrification are prominent, but their unique relationship forms the core of the story. Think of this more as an art film than a typical exploration of gangsta culture: One that’s uniquely compelling. NOTE: They work for Commander Moving and drive a truck with its phone number on the side (415-407-5043). I noticed it’s NOT a 555 number, which is the standard fake movie number, so I called to discover that it’s the real deal.
