Until this movie I wasn’t aware of James Morosini, who wrote (based on his own experiences), directed and stars as the son. Patton Oswald plays the father, who has been a lousy parent. When his son blocks him on social media, he concocts a young woman’s profile to get his son’s attention. Needless to say, this catfish scheme goes right, then wrong. Oswald is commendable with the few comic and mostly dramatic moments, but it’s Morosini who made the real impression. Not only is his script smart, his direction is assured and his charismatic presence adds to the quality. There’s not a lot of comedy, but the relationships and performances create a sweet “buddy” story that also exhibits Morosini’s promise as a creative force. (3.5 / 5)
