The fact that Peter Dinklage & Josh Brolin play twin brothers gives you some idea of the off-the-wall nature of this comedy. Plus, considering that Ethan Coen is half of the writing team (with Macon Blair), this solidifies the absurd angles. Tall brother has settled down into a marriage, when short bro gets out of jail. He sucks his brother into a plan to recover the emeralds left behind by their criminal mother (Jen Landon and later by Glenn Close). Meanwhile, a vicious prison guard (Brendan Fraser) is in pursuit. Dinklage is great in these rowdy roles, while Brolin mines the laughs with a sweet, reluctant personality. Fraser and Close both provide additional humorous potential. Director Max Barbakow has kept the pace moving and created situations that amplify the humor. There aren’t a lot of outright jokes and the plot runs predictably, but the actors and wacky energy provide sufficient fun for 90 minutes. (3.5 / 5)
