Long Distance

The opening scene is positively riveting, as a space traveler (Anthony Ramos) is awakened from his induced deep sleep to find himself being ejected from his ship that’s just been hit by asteroids. He soon lands on a deserted planet and must find his way. This includes the inevitable unfriendly creatures and yet another survivor (Naomi Scott), who conveniently happens to also be an attractive young woman. This story of struggle and survival has some truly frightening moments, from jump scares to extended chase sequences. Ramos brings his buoyant personality to his role, which adds humanity and humor. Scott makes a nice addition and has her own bit o’ spunk. Even though there are some credibility issues with their continual narrow escapes, the film still provides an enjoyable and, at times, tense flight to a distant world. NOTE: It was originally titled “Distant.” 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)
