Fackham Hall

As someone who’s seen all of “Downton Abbey” , including all 3 movies, I was informed and interested in this spoof. The story doesn’t really matter, but suffice it to say that the whole thing takes some of the show’s popular plot points and skews them. As for the comedy, the film is crammed with jokes ranging from subtle cultural references to broad absurdity. They are occasionally funny, more often just silly. One major aspect they ignored is the lush beauty aspect of the show: The costumes are especially bland. Director Jim O’Hanlon worked on the clever series “Catastrophe” and the popular show “Coronation Street,” but his skills can take him so far when the script is more asinine attitude than genuine comedy. Cool note: The voiceover is by Hayley Mills, who was a popular star in the 60s, best known for “The Parent Trap.” 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
