City of Shadows

The opening sequence shows a man being burned alive while hanging over the balcony of La Pedrera, one of architect Antoni Gaudí iconic buildings in Barcelona. This begins a police procedural to find the culprit and discover the reason behind the brutal crimes. As the series develops, people are found burned around Gaudí’s other landmarks. These immolations are the only things remotely memorable about the show, but even their obvious CGI flames lack much effect. The cops and their personal issues are pretty standard for the genre and the ultimate revelation isn’t especially shocking. The only thing to recommend this series is the opportunity to appreciate Gaudí’s designs, but there are plenty of YouTube videos that offer a better tour without the fires. (6 one-hour eps) 1.5 out of 5 stars (1.5 / 5)
