A Knight of Seven Kingdoms

HBO continues to mine their relationship with George R.R. Martin with this latest adventure that takes place 100 years before “Game of Thrones.” Peter Claffey plays Ser Duncan the Tall, who ends up with a young bald squire called Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). After wandering around for a bit, Duncan ends up in a life-or-death battle with the King’s knights. Even though the fight is gruesome, it lacks the brutal violence of GOT. It’s also fantasy free: Although they’re mentioned, there are no dragons or other mystical elements. This is primarily a story about the duo’s bonding. Both performers create empatethic characters and their relationship is sweet and sincere. Essentially, this short series serves as setup for their future adventures. (Six 30-minute eps) 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)
