Noted comedy director Paul Feig has once again teamed with Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively for the sequel to their original murder mystery “A Simple Favor” (my review). When Lively’s character decides to get married in Capri, she invites her iffy best friend (Kendrick) to be her maid of honor. Their prickly relationship is complicated with the inevitable murder, which takes some rather absurd turns before it’s solved. The film’s greatest asset is the playful chemistry between the 2 leads, plus Lively’s fabulous fashions. There’s not much true comedy and the only really fun character is provided by Elizabeth Perkins, as the mentally-unsure mom. As I said in the review of the first one, “Even though it’s seldom truly funny, it still manages to be entertaining in a fun, frothy style.” (2.5 / 5)
