The “Step Up” films promoted street dance and this centers around the world of collegiate Bollywood dance competitions in the US. Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia play best friends who join a California team and go on to the titular contest. The dance numbers are dizzying in their wild creativity and precise choreo, except when the flashy lighting effects distract. The dances are the reason to watch, but when the relationship stuff comes up, this quickly feels like an MTV drama with all the expected interpersonal issues. This turns to a YA approach and drags down the fun of the dancing. 2.0 out of 5.0 stars
