After their father dies, the sibling duo (Billy Barratt and Sora Wong) are sent to a supposedly sweet foster mom (Sally Hawkins). Looks are deceiving, because she’s got some weird ideas about bringing her dead daughter back to life. This involves undermining the health of the brother, while endearing herself to the sister, who’s also blind. Meanwhile, there’s a creepy child already living there that takes things to a supernatural level, which is the only mildly interesting bit of horror. Hawkins uses her typical screen charms to contrast her evil character. This is the second film from the twin Philippou brothers and I didn’t like their first (my 1.5 star review of “Talk to Me”). My summary from that review sums up this one too, “it’s just another dark exploration into teen terror that offers nothing new or very scary.” While there’s some mild violence and a few gory fleshy moments, this psychological thriller only succeeds in creating a sinister atmosphere with no suspense.
