Nicholas Braun is best known as the doofus Greg on Succession, so this film was probably chosen because it’s a complete pivot away from that character’s goofy charms. He plays a weird and somewhat mysterious guy who starts dating a woman he meets at a movie concession stand (Emilia Jones, best known as the daughter in CODA). Despite their age (and height) difference, they begin to date, but things are always a bit off-kilter. Is he a serial killer or is she just paranoid? This examination of dating dread and relationship awkwardness keeps her and the viewer guessing. Jones does a fine job and Braun manages to keep his character creepy. While the film never gets especially tense, it begins to wander off course and ultimately doesn’t deliver any thrills or even an especially important message about the dangers of dating. (2.5 / 5)
