Kenneth Branagh is back as detective Hercule Poirot and as director of this film based on Agatha Christie’s mystery. He joins the cast on a luxury cruise down the Nile to celebrate the marriage of a couple (Gal Gadot & Armie Hammer). Natch, murders start to occur and Poirot sets out to find the killer. Branagh assumed both tasks in 2017 for Murder on the Orient Express (my review) and the same criticisms apply, so here are excerpts from that review: “He drags things down with tedious cross examinations. Despite the dreary pacing and lack of any sparks from the underplayed cast, the scenery, art direction and cinematography are gorgeous.” Pretty much sums it up…again.
