Here’s a look at two recent British imports that are currently streaming. One looks at HIV/AIDS in London, while the other revolves a torrid triangle.
It’s a Sin
The latest effort from writer/director Russell T Davies (Queer As Folk and much more) is a look at swinging London during the 80s and the growing effect HIV/AIDS has on a group of gay characters (and their fave lass). The primary trio of young men escapes to London from their unpleasant family life to create to an exciting future. When this terrifying new disease appears, it eventually wrecks havoc on their lives. Much of this information has been covered in previous dramas, but this is the first time that England is the setting. Davies has created characters that are involving and scenarios that explore many aspects of the subject with energy and heart. [rating stars=”3.5″]

Behind Her Eyes
A secretary has an affair with her boss (nothing new here), but she also befriends his wife (a bit more interesting). The triangle of friendships forms the basis for this torrid tale that spends most of its time setting up the relationships for the final chapter, when the twists provide surprises. Fans of Sarah Pinborough’s novel may enjoy the soap-opera style, which is kept interesting by the strong performances. Other than the ending, there’s not much original or special here.
