Duster

The Duster was a sporty two-door coupe that was manufactured by Plymouth from 1970 to 1976. This series is set in the ‘70s Southwest, where that car’s fearless getaway driver (Josh Holloway) works for a crime syndicate. Meanwhile, the area’s first Black female FBI agent (Rachel Hilson) stirs up things at the conservative workplace, while proving her mettle on the case. Holloway makes a dashing longhair hero, while Hilson brings plenty of pluck to her character. The throwback to the period is not only reflected in the art direction, but also adopts a grindhouse look without being over stylized. This series was co-created by JJ Abrams and LaToya Morgan, who’ve crammed a lot in each episode, although the continual fast driving scenes are less spectacular than expected. Some of the elements are cool, while other times could use an extra pump of energy, making it uneven, but enjoyable. (Eight 30-minute eps with a 2nd season expected) 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
