Julianne Moore plays a horse trainer, whose drug-addicted daughter (Sydney Sweeney) shows up at her door with a horrible secret. Thus begins the mystery drama with expected twists and an ending that was mostly predictable. This was written by Brad Ingelsby, the creative force behind “Mare of Eastwown,” so there’s an intense focus on the relationships. As expected, Moore brings depth to her performance, while Sweeney is surprisingly effective with her challenging character (I’ve never found her amusing in her usual comedy roles). Director Michael Pearce has kept things interesting, while not creating any suspense. It plays out as a traditional hide-the-murder scenario with elements of melodrama, but the capable cast keeps it from being a complete disappointment. (2 / 5)
