The original “Evil Dead” movies and the TV series “Ash vs Evil Dead” were great fun with plenty of juicy gore, wild action and twisted humor. This latest installment has bits of those elements, but it’s not as assured or fun. A family and a few friends end up in a country house where the “Deadites” attack. There’s plenty of violent fighting, but not much that’s creative in approach. Actually, much of the direction uses frantic camerawork, which makes it harder to appreciate the details. There’s also lots of gory carnage, but again, nothing original. As for humor, the grandma has a few OK lines, but not nearly as smart as it needed to be. Ultimately, this is a watered-down sequel that anyone who’s familiar with the franchise will find disappointing. Looking back at my reviews of the last two, they were pretty awful too (my review, my review) NOTE: Stick thru the credits for one final kill. 1.5 out of 5.0 stars
