Hallow Road

This film is basically a two-hander starring Matthew Rhys and Rosamond Pike as parents who get a call from their daughter (Megan McDonnell) after she accidentally hits a pedestrian on a country road. The majority of the film has them in their car on the phone with their daughter trying to mitigate the potential fallout. This involves lots of screaming and frantic dialogue. Fortunately, the duo has strong acting skills, which helps. Even so, they can’t rise above the repetitive dialogue and Babak Anvari’s bland direction. It’s simply never tense and ultimately frustrating. “Hollow” might be a better adjective. NOTE: Pike and Rhys also provide the voices for the never-seen couple on the phone. 2.0 out of 5.0 stars
