A student living in 1963 France finds herself pregnant. Determined to continue her studies, she resolves to get an abortion. However, the procedure is punishable by prison, so her quest is riddled with doubt and danger. This is told with unsparing details, including several intense scenes of her attempts to rid herself of the fetus. Director Audrey Diwan has chosen to shoot the film in an objective style, not using the camera or editing to amplify the intense personal challenges. Even so, the results are powerful. Obviously, with the current political situation in the US, this film takes on new relevance. (In French with subtitles) (4 / 5)
