The opening scene shows a bloody woman, who’s been stabbed to death 40 times on the hood of her car. This sets up a string of murders of women who were teen friends, one of which is also a reporter (Tessa Thompson). The chief investigator (Jon Bernthal) also has personal connections to the case. I’ll leave it at that, although this standard crime drama plays out predictably. (I identified the killer about 3 eps in.) Even with the necessary twists to keep things moving, the story lacks any original elements. What sets this series apart is the dynamic interactions between Bernthal and Thompson. They both create strong characters that drive the umph behind the series. Otherwise, it’s yet another typical twisty crime series. (Six one-hour eps)
