How to Make a Killing

Glen Powell stars as a man who was disowned at birth by his rich family. A childhood girlfriend (Margaret Qualley) casually suggests he eliminate the people who are in line for his inheritance, hence the title. The concept had potential for an enjoyably dark crime comedy. Powell maintains his charisma and charm, but he isn’t helped by writer/director John Patton Ford, who didn’t make the script sufficiently funny or the kills effectively clever. Qualley creates a pretty devious character. At least the pacing keeps it from ever being dull, but it’s never especially smart either. His last film, “Emily the Criminal” (my review) was more successful. 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
