Liam Hemsworth is one of a quartet of soldiers sent into enemy territory to “extract” an asset (his real-life brother Luke is also on the team). Russell Crowe plays the crusty drone pilot back in Vegas. In many ways this looks like a typical military adventure with the expected gunfire and setbacks. What makes this one more interesting is the extensive use of tech to track and dispatch the enemy. The action starts slowly, but by the final scenes, there’s some genuine tension. Hensworth handles his part with solid action chops, while Crowe relishes being bold and blustery. Even though the plot is predictable, the display of modern warfare adds a more interesting element. BTW, there’s a quick basketball reference that mentions VCU! (3 / 5)
