“Drive Away Dolls” was released last month and featured 2 lesbians who become involved with crimes (my review). This month features Kristen Stewart and Katy O’Brian as new lovers who get into their own danger. Stewart’s character runs a gym where O’Brian’s weightlifter shows up. Their romance is quick and the sex scenes are interestingly intimate without being especially graphic. Things go awry when her father (Ed Harris with creepy hair) and brother-in-law (Dave Franco with bad hair) cause trouble. Anna Baryshnikov as the over-eager girlfriend (and daughter of the famed dancer) adds some quirk. Much of the time is spent with the lovebirds, but as things get bloody, there are mild elements of apprehension. What makes the film most interesting are the dark pulp aspects and even flights of fantasy from director Rose Glass. Top that off with the fierce performances by everyone.
