This is the first animation guided by John Lasseter since his ouster from Pixar. It revolves around an unlucky young woman (Eva Noblezada), who loses a lucky penny and travels to a magical world to recover her coin. The film’s designers have created a beautiful environment with busy gadgets and lovely colors. That’s a good thing, because so much of this film revolves around dialogue…at least there’s something pretty in the background. While it begins enjoyably, the middle section drags tremendously with entirely too much talk, much of it repetitive and moralistic. The concept is more sophisticated that usual children’s films, but the lack of fun supporting characters and exciting action drains any energy and minimizes its chance for a family pleaser. (2 / 5)
