Josh Brolin stars as the owner of a Wyoming ranch who discovers a large hole on his land. That sets up the sci-fi expectations, but what really transpires is a crime drama. The comparisons to Yellowstone will be inevitable: Gruff rancher with a tough family (including Lily Taylor), border disputes, a dash of Native American flavor and a murder. While the abyss promises mysterious developments, every episode drops a tiny surprise near the end to encourage watching the next one. That means sitting thru the other stuff in hopes of a hint of explanation (doesn’t happen). The personal conflicts are moderately interesting, but not really compelling enough to wait around for the big reveal. (Review based on 4 of 8 episodes).
