Bow Tie Cinemas Movieland will be the only theater in Richmond to play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom starting this Friday, 12/4. It stars Academy Award® winner Viola Davis in the lead and Chadwick Boseman in his final performance.
Based on the August Wilson play, the titular blues singer gathers with her band at a recording studio in 1927, where she engages in a battle of wills with her white manager. Boseman plays the trumpeter who has ideas of his own.
An early sneak preview is scheduled for Thur, 12/3 (7pm) with Fri & Sat showtimes at 2:40, 5:10, 7:40 and 10:10. Visit the website or app for tix. The cinema has been opened since July with extensive safety precautions in place (click here for details). As any of my readers know, I’ve been going to movies weekly and have always felt safe.
A FUN IDEA: You can host a Private Movie Party for Ma Rainey’s or another movie for up to 20 guests as low as $99 (prices may vary).
BTW, Wonder Woman 1984 tickets are now on sale ahead of its Christmas Day release.
