Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire

Zack Snyder is a talented director of comic book films. The world of this movie is his original creation, although the comparisons to Star Wars and other space operas are obvious. It’s set on a distant settlement that’s threatened by the tyrannical ruling force and the rebels who lead the fight against them. There are all the expected staples: scruffy heroes, cruel bad guys, weird creatures, exotic locales, cool effects and imposing airships, which he loves to waste time watching them land and kick up dust. While there are some decent action sequences and some mildly interesting visuals, it all seems like a repeat of so many other entries into this tired genre. Perhaps Snyder was hoping to cut thru the superhero fatigue with his invention, but he brought nothing new. And what he did bring wasn’t exciting. BTW, he has plans to release a theatrical R-rated version with more violence and other differences. 1.5 out of 5 stars (1.5 / 5)
