This popular video game has spawned numerous films and even a previous TV series, but since I’ve never participated in the game, so I can’t address this show’s veracity. I can say that it’s an uneven thrill ride. The story starts in a futuristic timeline, where our heroine endures a gauntlet of lethal threats. Suddenly, things flash back to present day, when she and her sister are coping with their teen life before dealing with the more deadly future. There are giant killer animals, raging “zombies,” lots of meanies, dark passages and hostile locations. Through it all are some great action sequences, but there are also extended discussions about the world that drag things down. This could have been tighter, but there’s still plenty of gory outrageousness to keep the franchise pumping. (8 one-hour eps). (3.5 / 5)
