The Big Door Prize A mysterious booth appears in a small town store and anyone who uses it gets a card that reveals their destiny. Even though this is billed as a comedy, it’s mostly dramatic in nature. Chris O’Dowd heads the cast and his warm affable personality provides the series its lighter moments. Otherwise, each ep follows people who are changing their lives in sometimes unusual ways because of the card. In the first 4 eps, some of the dramatic changes prove interesting, but it’ll take a more extensive viewing to determine if the prize is worth the time. (Review based on 4 out of ten 30-minute eps and has been renewed for a 2nd season) 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)

The Power This is based on Naomi Alderman’s novel about a sci-fi world where teenage girls start to develop the power to send electric jolts from their fingers. The story is told from several different locations around the world, where the young women are exercising their newfound energy to make changes to how they’re treated. The first 3 eps move slowly as they set up the situations, but Ep 4 brought some of the stories to a striking crisis that bodes dark for a future when women have such control over their lives and the ones around them. (Review based on 4 out of 9 eps) 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
