Current hits “Obsession” and “Backrooms” aren’t my type of thriller…mostly creepy atmosphere. I prefer a deranged killer with a knife and got my wish. Kevin Williamson broke new ground in horror when he wrote the original version of this franchise in 1996. He’s back to direct this one. It still features Neve Campbell, as she tries to track down the Ghostface killer and, this time, to save her daughter. Courteney Cox also shows up with too much Botox. These films are all about gruesome killings and jump scares and this one delivers on both counts. Almost everyone in the cast gets murdered, mostly dispatched quickly and sometimes creatively. There are some genuine jolts as well. Of course, the plot is thin and the dialogue flat, but this newest manages the score where it matters. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars
