Sisu

In the wilderness of Finland’s Lapland an ex-soldier (Jorma Tommila) discovers gold and spends the rest of the movie dispatching a steady stream of occupying Nazis who get in his way. He becomes a sort of John Wick, violently killing his opposition, while remaining virtually unscathed. Even when he gets wounded and worse, he manages to emerge to continue his quest. This attitude is the approximate translation of the title, courage and determination. The only reason to see this film is for the brutal acts of death, which are sometimes cleverly dispatched. Other than the stark landscapes, which are captured with attractive cinematography, there’s nothing else but mud, blood and carnage. Ironically, he utters his first and only words as the last line of the film. 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)
