Snow White

Disney’s latest live-action reimagining reworks the classic 1937 film. First, the plot has no prince (and no “One Day My Prince Will Come”). Instead, the hero is a bandit (Andrew Burnap). His group of seven are dropped in to little effect. Really, what was their purpose? Meanwhile, the famed dwarves are computer generated and they just look weird. Two of the original songs are intact, but all of the new ones feel like generic 21st century show tunes. The basic plot remains: The sweet princess (Rachel Zegler) is banished by her jealous step-mother (Gal Gadot), later poisoned, then rescued. Zegler captures her character’s simplicity well. Gadot is attractive, but doesn’t offer much depth or empathy. The design is fine, but lacks any eye-popping beauty. As a matter of fact, the whole endeavor feels flat. It never captures any of the magic that we usually expect from Disney. 1.5 out of 5 stars (1.5 / 5)
