The Accountant 2

Ben Affleck returns as a math savant on the Autism spectrum. This time he’s trying to find and save a kidnapped immigrant boy. He enlists the help of his mercurial, pro-killer brother (Jon Bernthal) and also uses a group of kids on the spectrum who marshal their abilities to do research that helps him find the culprits. Affleck makes this subdued character gently amusing, while Bernthal’s volitale presence also adds some mild humor. There’s sufficient complexity in the story to keep it interesting and only a few moments of action to add some fun. The plot meanders a bit, but the addition of the high-tech support team is cool. Gavin O’Connor is back directing and his fight scene works, but the big shootout is just noisy. Even so, the charisma of the two men serves to make the average action tropes more enjoyable. (NOTE: Look for former RVA actor and TheatreVCU grad Michelle Carter as a receptionist.) 3.5 out of 5 stars (3.5 / 5)
