The Bubble

From writer/director Judd Apatow comes this comedy about trying to make a movie during COVID quarantine. He’s assembled a decent cast, including Fred Armisen, David Duchovny, Keegan-Michael Key, Leslie Mann and Kate McKinnon, plus some fun cameos. They’re all trapped in one location near London to make the 6th installment of a cheesy adventure series, while they also cope with the peculiar personalities. Even though most of the activity takes place between shoots, there are some fun scenes of their filming with the green screen. Overall, the movie has plenty of comic energy, but not a lot of truly funny lines. In some ways it feels like a loosely-improvised Christopher Guest project. The Tic-Toc dance numbers are improbable attempts at relevant material, but they just feel silly. While the vitality is there, the writing is only mildly amusing. NOTE: Stay thru the early credits for fun, then one final gag after all the credits. 2 out of 5 stars (2 / 5)
