The Continental: From the World of John Wick

The Continental is the hotel for global assassins that was introduced in the John Wick movies. This prequel establishes the takeover from the current boss (Mel Gibson loving being evil) to Winston Scott (Colin Woodell here, but played by Ian McShane in the Wick movies). The occupation takes place over 3 episodes and it’s really like watching 3 full-length movies. Other than the corruption and intrigue, the real reason for these shows is the action. The first and final chapters have several impressive encounters full of an endless barrage of bullets, plus other painful, lethal attacks. While the production design is dark and interesting, the pace often slows when the extended dialogue scenes begin. Violent action lovers can enjoy the regular outbursts, but if this series had been one concise film, it might have transferred the excitement of the Wick movies. 2.5 out of 5 stars (2.5 / 5)
