What starts out as a typical high school day turns horrific when 3 of the protagonists hear a deadly shooting while hiding in the bathroom. Even without seeing the event, the sounds are terrifying. The remainder of the film follows 4 of the survivors, as they struggle to come to terms with the trauma in different ways. It primarily focuses on one teen (Jenna Ortega) as she tries various ways to cope and slowly connects with friends. And slow is the operative word…not a lot happens and it doesn’t happen quickly. It’s a mildly interesting character study that sensitively examines these issues from several angles, but never with much emotion or subsequent drama. A low-key examination of the issues without any definitive answers and an ending that packs a punch. (3.5 / 5)
